Ruby

Hi! My name is Ruby! 

I was still in my mom’s belly when she was rounded up on the Yakama Nation’s reservation in south-central Washington and sent to slaughter. Thankfully, Pregnant Mare Rescue stepped in and saved her. I was born just as she stepped off the rescue transport onto sacred land provided by a guardian angel. This special place allowed us to thrive together, and for the next 5 ½ years, I flourished in the open space, living happily alongside my mom. I felt loved and was given time to mature. I’ll admit, I was a bit of a rascal growing up—strong-willed, smart, and always craving attention. Being young and impulsive, it was hard for me to listen to what my people wanted or to be patient. Some might have even called me ‘strong-willed’ and ‘opinionated’—in a good way, of course! 🥰

Because I was given many years to grow in safety, I am now playful, social, and I just love animals, humans, and kids! I love attention more than anything. I’m really smart, and I’m ready to learn whatever you want to teach me! I’m sweet and smart—but I also like to test boundaries if you’re not paying attention. I love snacks! Especially carrots. Sometimes I get a bit too excited if you bring treats into the pasture, so I’d really appreciate it if you stayed outside the fence and made me earn them. Call me across the field, and I’ll gladly come to you for a treat. That way, I won’t lose my wits over snacks and forget my manners! I’m still learning, and I really want to make you proud.

Oh, and one more thing… I loooove kids!! I can’t help but sniff them all over and could play with them all day. If I weren’t so big and didn’t weigh 900 pounds, I bet I’d make a great babysitter!

Ruby’s Personality: 

Ruby is a fun, social, and outgoing and absolutely loves attention. She’s always hoping the cats, dogs, and chickens will play with her, as she enjoys making new friends. When human companions come to visit, Ruby is the first to run up and greet them. Playdates, hugs, and connecting with everyone are some of her favorite things. And kids…..adores them!
