At Beyond Liberty, our resident herd currently consists of two mustang mares—Melody (14) and her daughter Ruby (7).
Melody, a formerly wild mustang, was rescued by our close collaborator, Pregnant Mare Rescue (PMR), while 11 months pregnant. As Melody stepped off the transport truck where Beyond Liberty first took root, she gave birth to Ruby. Their story became the inspiration for Beyond Liberty, and they have remained at the heart of our mission ever since.
Together, Melody and Ruby embody the values that define Beyond Liberty: freedom, choice, connection, and lifelong sanctuary.

Born at rescue after her pregnant mother was saved from slaughter, Ruby grew up safe and loved in open pastures. Strong‑willed, playful, and endlessly social, she adores kids and craves attention, greeting every visitor with curiosity and joy. Smart and spirited.

Our Collaboration with Pregnant Mare Rescue (PMR)
Beyond Liberty is proud to collaborate with Pregnant Mare Rescue (PMR), a nonprofit organization dedicated to championing horse welfare through rescue, sanctuary, and education.
PMR is committed to rescuing pregnant mares and orphan foals from abuse, providing lifelong sanctuary, and advocating for the humane treatment of all horses through education while enriching the human experience.
While Melody and Ruby are Beyond Liberty’s resident herd, many of our educational experiences are enriched through our ongoing collaboration with PMR and the horses who call the sanctuary home.
Together, our organizations are committed to creating meaningful experiences that deepen understanding, foster connection, and promote the well-being of both horses and humans.

What is the difference between adopting and sponsoring a horse?
Adoption is a permanent transfer of ownership, where the horse leaves the sanctuary to live with the adopter. Sponsorship is a recurring donation that helps fund the horse’s care while they continue to live safely at the Beyond Liberty sanctuary. Sponsorship does not involve ownership or moving the horse.
How does my sponsorship money directly help the horses?
Your sponsorship funds go toward the daily essentials for your horse and the herd. This includes high-quality hay and feed, necessary veterinary care (vaccinations, checkups), farrier services (hoof trimming), and maintaining their clean, safe pasture and shelter.
What benefits do I receive for sponsoring a horse?
Benefits vary by sponsorship level, but typically include:
A personalized Sponsorship Certificate.
Regular (monthly or quarterly) updates and photos of your sponsored horse.
A private visit or meet-and-greet with your horse (dependent on the level and the horse’s welfare needs).

Are the horses available for riding or public interaction?
Many of our horses, especially those with past injuries or trauma, are not available for riding. They serve as therapeutic companions or sanctuary residents. Interaction is generally available through our approved visitor programs or as a benefit of certain sponsorship tiers, always supervised and prioritizing the horse’s comfort.
Is my sponsorship or donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Beyond Liberty is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations and sponsorships are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. You will receive an official receipt for your records.
Can I send gifts or treats to the horse I sponsor?
We love that you want to spoil them! For safety and dietary reasons, we ask that you do not send food treats unless they are pre-approved. You can, however, send toys, blankets, or grooming supplies. Please contact us first so we can ensure the item is safe and appropriate for your horse
