Hi, my name is Mollie, and I have a story to tell.

Before I tell you anything else, I need to explain the scars on my belly flank (side) because if you come visit me, they’re noticeable, and you’ll ask about them. They are my story—my history. The scars on my belly are from a “flank strap” that was repeatedly tied too tightly around me to make me buck from the discomfort during rodeos. The strap rubbed my skin raw, made me bleed, and the wounds were never properly treated. So there we are! Although they are painful reminders of what I’ve been through, they’re also part of my story of survival and healing.

After my rodeo days, I was sent to the Fallon Feed and Kill Lot in Nevada, where my fate was nearly sealed. Luckily, I was rescued by a kind woman, but my fear and trauma made me untouchable. Her husband wanted me gone, and she feared for my safety. Who would take in a horse as scared and reactive as I was, especially a pregnant one? I was in serious danger of ending up in the slaughter pipeline once again.

That’s when PMR stepped in and gave me a chance. They saw how vulnerable I was—frightened, sad, and wary of everyone. They let me settle into a quiet pasture, giving me the space I needed to feel safe again.

Just three weeks later, I gave birth to a beautiful dove-gray filly. We decided that such a special baby deserved a fancy name, so she was called Taloulah Mae. Today, she goes by Taloulah Moon and is living in Montana).

As for me, over these past nine years, I’ve come a long way. I’ve learned to trust again, thanks to the patient and loving care I’ve received. I’m still scared and feel vulnerable at times, but I now play an important role in the sanctuary’s therapeutic and healing programs, helping others through my own journey of resilience and recovery.

Besides hay, grain, and grazing whenever I want, the sanctuary gives me anti-inflammatories, vitamin C, CBD, and on my luckiest days… peppermint puff candy! Please consider becoming my sponsor.  With your support, I can continue to heal and help others do the same.

Sincerely,
Mollie 💞🐎💞

P.S. Did I mention I love peppermint puff Candy? 🍬
