When horses retire at BL they live, at liberty, with other horses and are provided with ample space to move freely, and choose if and how they want to engage with humans.
Retirement includes:
- Time to acclimate to a new environment and new lifestyle.*
- Live in large spacious natural environments with plenty of room to move freely
- Socialization with other horses
- Living in herds with compatible companions
- Opportunities for socialization and positive interactions with humans
- Regular feeding and supplementation
- Choice to participate in educational and therapeutic programs, such as meditation, music therapy, walk/talk therapy, nature walks, gardening, and more.
- Regular grooming
- 24/7 on-site supervision
- Routine medical, dental, and farrier care
- An exceptionally high level of individual care, love, and attention
- Retired horses are not ridden.
*Some horses require more adjustment time to reconnect with their instincts, relearn human body language and boundaries on the ground and at liberty (without tack), understand a new horse-human dynamic, and time to adjust to herd dynamics and social structure. This is expected and understood with each new horse that is accepted by Beyond Liberty.
