A Testament to Kindness
Hi, my name is Phoenix, I was born under challenging circumstances, with my future uncertain.
My mom and I were pierced with tags that said “meat”; a blessing from above changed everything. We were rescued and brought to PMR when I was just five weeks old.
When I arrived, I was weak and scared, lying beside my mom in the trailer. My legs were deformed, and it looked like a big challenge, but PMR saw something special in me. They called on a skilled man, Brian Hyodo, who worked on my legs, and a farrier, Tod Rego, who cared for my feet. With their help, I began to heal from what they called Carpus Valgus, and remarkably, I recovered without needing surgery. As the days passed, I grew stronger and more hopeful. My journey is a testament to the power of kindness, care, and perseverance. Now, I spend my days in the peaceful sanctuary, proudly taking on the role of Lead Gelding, a responsibility I take very seriously.
Because my mom had been impregnated shortly after I was born, she stopped nursing me at 4 months. I wasn’t ready for that, but the compassionate humans at the rescue paired me with Mollie, who, along with the other elder herd members, helped guide me to become a strong leader. While my leg deformity has improved 95%, I still need special care and observation as I continue to grow.
