A Testament to Kindness

Hi, my name is Phoenix, I was born under challenging circumstances, with my future uncertain.

For most of my life, I was a broodmare, chosen for my beauty and grace to bring babies (foals) into the world. I was admired for my elegant build but once I was no longer able to produce perfect babies, I was left with nowhere to go. As I aged, I found myself homeless, no longer needed.

When I arrived at the PMR Sanctuary, I felt a deep sense of relief. Finally, I was safe. I was sent to a quiet pasture, where I could graze and keep company for other horses when their companions were off on trails. Life was peaceful, and for a while, I felt at ease.

But last year, when I was brought back to the main sanctuary, something felt different. I was lost. I didn’t know where I belonged anymore. After being shuffled from place to place, I didn’t have a sense of home or purpose. I was confused: Where is my home? What is my place?

That’s when the kind people here showed me a new kind of care. Denna, the sanctuary manager, reassured me with gentle words and understanding. She made me a promise: this was my forever home. For the first time, I could truly settle in, knowing I belonged. I became proud to be part of the sanctuary herd, and now, I’m finally at peace.

In addition to yummy hay there’s all sorts of things that the sanctuary provides that makes me feel seen and taken care of. For example, I need new fly masks during the summer months, anti-inflammatory joint supplements, CBD, Belly Paste for my itchy belly, and triple antibiotic ointment. OH, and my favorite…lots of love, apples and carrots!
