Willow’s journey began in a Texas kill pen, where she was pulled from a crowded trailer while pregnant and brought into safety. Even in those uncertain early days, her depth, gentleness, and quiet strength were unmistakable. Soon after her rescue, Willow gave birth to her colt, Cinnamon Jim, who has since been adopted and now thrives on open land alongside other rescued horses.
Willow was adopted for a time; during that period, it became clear that physical limitations from early overbreeding made her unsuitable for riding, and she was returned to Pregnant Mare Rescue. That return marked a turning point in her story. Willow went into foster care with Bailey and his owner, Ed, a longtime friend of PMR who opened his heart and home to both horses.
Under Ed’s care, Willow and Bailey were kept safe, loved, and together. Though Ed was not a horse person by trade, his devotion was unwavering. He honored the memory of his late wife, Barbara, through his care for Bailey and extended that same commitment to Willow. Over the years, Willow and Bailey formed a deep, steady bond, finding comfort and security in one another.
Ed continued to care for both horses until his untimely passing in 2025. In the wake of his death, PMR stepped in to honor the promise made to him—that Bailey, and the bond he shared with Willow, would always be protected.
Today, Willow is approximately 18 years old. She is soulful, intuitive, and deeply affectionate—an unrideable horse whose value lies not in what she can do, but in who she is. Willow offers a calming, grounded presence and forms meaningful connections with those around her. She is supported with joint supplements to ease the long-term effects of her early life and ensure her continued comfort.
